Howard Eugene “Gene” Tompkins Jr., 67, of Tifton, GA, passed away on January 21, 2023, at Southwell Health and Rehabilitation in Adel, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Albritton Funeral Directors with Reverend Mark Mercer officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 1:45 P.M., Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Albritton Funeral Directors.
Gene was born May 13, 1955, in Moultrie, GA, to the late Howard Eugene Tompkins Sr., and Mamie Powell Tompkins. Mr. Tompkins is also preceded in death by his father-in-law James “Bubba” Walters.
Mr. Tompkins was retired from the Tift County Board of Commissioners as a building inspector. He was a current member of the Greater Tift County Planning and Zoning Commission. He was also recently employed with Structures by Chris Brooks. Mr. Tompkins was a current member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton, GA and was very strong in his faith.
Mr. Tompkins is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Becky Bryan Tompkins of Tifton, GA; one son, Blake Tompkins of Macon, GA; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mamie Lula and Tommy Lamb of Doerun, GA, Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough of Doerun, GA; and his mother-in-law Ima Jean Walters of Tifton, GA.
